6/24/2023 0 Comments Honolulu rail routeI do acknowledge the pro rail arguments such as the rail transit system will reduce traffic congestion, the rail will be a faster mode of transportation, and the rail will be “green” and economically friendly and will provide local jobs. Like all debates every issue has its pros and cons and the debate over the rail transit system is no different. I understand that the city has already started construction on the rail, but if we pause the construction now and save that money we might be able to come up with a better solution. I argue that the effectiveness of the elevated rail system is not worth the amount of 5.3 billion dollars, instead of going through with the building of the rail we should pause the construction to reconsider other cost efficient viable options for relieving the traffic problem on Oahu. This essay is from an anti-rail point of view, but with tasteful respect towards anyone who is pro rail and informative to those who are undecided. There are basically three groups of people/audience that I considered while writing this essay they are the pro rail, anti rail and undecided. Take TheBus, Handi-Van, and rail to and link your trips by riding a bicycle, car, skateboard, scooter, or simply walking. The debate over the Honolulu Rail Transit system is easily one of Hawaii’s major controversial issues because the decision whether or not to build the rail will affect all of Hawaii’s citizens and visitors. Public transit gives commuters affordable options to move from place to place. Rail is the newest member of our multimodal transit ʻohana on Oʻahu. Rail is the latest addition to our island’s transportation options, elevating riders above ground-level congestion to avoid traffic, roadway incidents, and road construction. Our existing public transportation system, TheBus and Handi-Van, provide much needed transit options for those who choose to commute collectively, rather than individually. Oʻahu’s busy residents and visitors are looking for new ways to get around. In addition to TheBus service, there will be improved access stations for TheHandi-Van riders. Three new TheBus Transit Centers will be located at:Īll rail stations, excluding Honouliuli - Ho`opili Station, and Hālaulani - Leeward Community College Station, will have bus stops and connectivity. TheBus service and routes will be updated to provide access to the first nine rail stations on July 1, 2023. Fare capping will work in connectivity for both TheBus and rail. Riders will still be able fare cap their HOLO cards on rail, meaning riders won't spend more than a day pass. A single ride on rail will be the same cost as a single ride on TheBus (pricing will be determined by Adult, Youth, Senior, etc.). Riders will be able to use their HOLO cards to board both TheBus and rail, keeping transfers and passes between both systems. Rail will have connectivity to TheBus and other City modes of public transportation. These transfers can be used to board a bus, or another train without being charged, if used within the 2.5 hours. Riders will be charged based on their HOLO card type, and will be given a transfer, good for 2.5 after the first tap. HOLO card vending kiosks will also be located next to the fare gates.Ī single tap at the fare gate will allow riders to enter the station, to board the next available train. These card readers will be located at the fare gates at the entrance of each station. Similar to riding TheBus with a HOLO card, riders will need to "tap" their cards on the HOLO card reader. In order to ride, you'll need to have a valid HOLO card with funds. Riding the rail will be easy for everyone! Whether you'd been on a rail system before or not, Honolulu's rail system will ensure a safe, quick, and easy way to get around. TheBus and rail will work together to get riders to their ultimate destinations. Trains will arrive at stations every 10 minutes.
